Police in the US state of Mississippi have said that they believe a black woman was already dead before her body was "staged" and placed hanging in a tree, US media reports.

The disclosure was made in court by a detective on Friday, who also said they believed Tasia Fortune had been killed in a dispute related to drugs, US media reported.

The 29-year-old's body was found hanging from a tree on the grounds of an abandoned home in Jackson in August.

The discovery sparked widespread fears in the majority-black city, due to the state's deep history of racial violence and lynchings. After weeks of speculation and demands for information, police made multiple arrests.

The BBC has contacted the court, the medical examiner's office and Fortune's mother, Christy Spivey.

In a statement to the BBC on Friday, Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said "Our language has been consistent...Ms Fortune was found in a hanging position. We have not released any information contrary to that statement."

Brackney did not immediately respond to additional questions about the detective's disclosure in court.

Officials have not stated the exact cause of death or shared why they believe the hanging was staged.

The lack of information about the case had left the community in Jackson, a majority-black city in a state with a history of racial violence and lynching, in shock and fear.

The medical examiner confirmed earlier this month that Fortune's cause of death was homicide and said there would be a murder charge.

Jarques Ratliff, 51, was arrested and pleaded not guilty. He remains in custody in without bond.

A second person, Earnest Lloyd Jr, 25, was arrested in the case this week, while a third was reportedly being sought by authorities.

Manchester City have been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching.

The Athletic , externalis reporting that the sanctions have not been decided but that the independent panel has reached its decision, finding the club guilty of all but one count.

The Premier League declined to comment.

Asked if the report was correct, City did not comment either way.

Instead they released a statement saying the "Premier League process remains ongoing with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality".

"The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence," it added.

BBC Sport has also been told that, in the event of being found guilty, City will appeal against the findings.

Other Premier League clubs are believed to have been informed about the independent panel's decision and have sought legal advice as to whether they would have a compensation claim.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says the potential sanctions for Manchester City will be 'significant' after the sources told BBC Sport that the club has been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says his country has proposed a deal to the US that would see the Strait of Hormuz reopened within a week.

Araghchi told reporters at the UN in New York that this could be done "if the necessary conditions are met" and said these were contained within the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in June to extend a ceasefire that subsequently broke down.

Asked about the Iranian offer, a US official said positive discussions were taking place through mediators, including about nuclear issues, Reuters reported. Earlier this week Donald Trump threatened to "annihilate the Islamic Republic".

The US and Israel launched air strikes on Iran on 28 February. Iran responded by attacking Israel and US bases in the Gulf and Arab Gulf allies of the US - as well as blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

Some 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas used to pass through the strait before the war and its closure has caused wild fluctuations of prices.

It has also increased pressure on Trump to find a way of ending the conflict - particularly as the US heads to Congressional elections in November.

"If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened, a normal maritime passage restored within seven days. The choice now rests with the United States," Araghchi told reporters.

He did not specify what steps Iran wanted the US to take but added that "the actions that the United States should take are not new. They are all already in the MOU".

Andy Burnham has insisted he is not tempted to call an early general election, arguing it would throw "the country into a backward-looking process".

During a round of BBC interviews ahead of Labour's annual conference, the prime minister said his focus was on helping people with the cost of living and supporting businesses.

Recent polling has suggested Labour's position has improved since Burnham replaced Sir Keir Starmer in Downing Street in July, although Reform UK and the Conservatives are not far behind.

An early general election could give Burnham a mandate of his own and free him from commitments made in Labour's 2024 manifesto. The next general election must be held by August 2029.

Asked by ITV Calendar if the next election would be in 2029, he replied: "Yes, that's when the next election will be.

"All of this speculation on an early election, I can knock that dead."

OpenAI said Friday it had alerted "dozens" of global institutions that their websites may have been impacted by its AI agents acting improperly.

OpenAI agents attempted to get information from "governments, universities, public agencies, and other institutions" through sometimes extreme means, the company said.

While some of the activity was simply due to the tools working to find "authoritative sources of public information," some went beyond that. Like an AI agent taking and transferring data when it should not have, OpenAI said.

Such activity resulted in at least 53 incidents where an OpenAI agent took an image from ChatGPT user activity and transferred it elsewhere.

The company said that in each instance of a user image being used and transferred by an AI agent, the user had allowed OpenAI to train models using their data.

Nevertheless, OpenAI admitted, "This is not an appropriate use of this data".

It added that the leak of user images occurred before it had put in place new safeguards on AI training, and it was working to get all the user images transferred to any third-party removed.

Reuters first reported these issues.

OpenAI also indicated on Friday that its software may have circumvented certain security controls of the sites impacted - though it doesn't necessarily mean each incident led to a significant security breach.

"Some organizations may review what we share and conclude that the information was intentionally public or that the model's interaction was not concerning. Others may identify a design issue or security weakness they want to address," the company said.

OpenAI said it came across the incidents during an investigation that started after it learned that its AI models had hacked the AI platform Hugging Face, an incident that was revealed publicly last month.

The disclosures on Friday comes just days after Australian's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said OpenAI had breached non-public files on the website of its government-run health care scheme, Medicare.

Earlier this week Trump announced that the proposed "Triumphal Arch" would double as a complex to store military equipment, complete with the ability to deploy snipers and drones from the roof and plaza.

In a letter to the Pentagon and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Duckworth said they "must reject this foolhardy plan and instead focus on increasing the safety of the airspace".

The arch is to be built just outside Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, and about 4mi (6km) from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the site of the deadly 2025 midair crash between a military helicopter and commercial plane.

"The American people cannot afford to stand witness to Trump's risky plan to place a 250-foot (72m) structure along a busy approach path, especially if he follows through on plans to station snipers on the arch and fly drones," Duckworth wrote in the letter, which was obtained by the BBC's US partner, CBS News.

The FAA, however, ruled last week that the massive structure would not pose a risk to flights coming into and out of the airport.

On Thursday, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, led by Trump appointees, announced it was ending required consultations with local officials about how the structure might affect 42 historic properties in the area.

The council said in the announcement that the National Park Service, which oversees federal landmarks, had proposed a plan for mitigating potential harms to those properties, but local historic preservation officers "raised concerns with the purpose and need of the Triumphal Arch". They also questioned whether the service had adequately identified possible harms and planned sufficient actions to address them.

Federal and state officials are not required to reach an agreement on a project's harm-mitigation plans, and those consultations are allowed to be terminated if both sides can't agree. The council expects to submit a final report on the process early next month.

Meanwhile, Democratic Virginia Congressman Don Beyer says excavation work on the site where the arch will stand has already begun.

Beyer, who is leading congressional opposition to the arch, said he found workers operating heavy equipment when he visited the site on Thursday who told him they were "conducting archaeological work to evaluate the composition of the soil".

That is "deeply troubling", Beyer said, particularly because the administration is required to give 48 hours notice before work can begin.

"The Administration appears to be pushing ahead with activity at the site even while it still has not done the basic work necessary to understand the consequences of this project," Beyer wrote.

A rendering of the design from earlier this year includes a golden, winged Lady Liberty on the top of the arch, flanked by two gold eagles, and with the phrases "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All" inscribed in gold on either side of the structure.

Exactly 50 years after they formed, U2 returned to Dublin to play a gig at the school where they met.

President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia has widened its attacks to target Ukraine's data centres and internet providers, seeking to cause maximum disruption for ordinary people.

"All this affects people's ability to stay connected, study, work," he said.

On Friday a Russian drone hit a business centre in the capital Kyiv, killing four people and damaging a data centre. A separate attack killed a 14-year-old boy. Israel's foreign ministry said he was an Israeli citizen.

Russia confirmed it had targeted a data centre site, saying it was being used by Ukrainian military intelligence.

About 100,000 households in Kyiv and the region suffered internet outages on Wednesday due to strikes.

Some firms have already begun moving data from damaged servers to facilities abroad.

In the north-western city of Lutsk, electronic information boards at public transport stops were not working on Friday, officials said. The city council said this was "due to damage caused by a Russian attack on data centres in Kyiv".

In Friday's social media post, Zelensky wrote: "The Russians are constantly expanding their escalation operation: American and other businesses, data centres, internet providers – for Russia, all ordinary life is simply a target.

"It is important that the world responds to all of this and that Russia feels the response to its terror."

Late on Friday, Zelensky said "additional decisions" had been made at his meeting with Ukraine's top defence and security officials to protect the country's data centres and other critical communications facilities to ensure their continuous operation.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said that Russia was seeking to disrupt the flow of "life-saving information" by targeting data centres.

"Rapid alerts about missile and drone threats are essential - they save lives. This is critical civilian infrastructure... It is not a military target. It is essential to keeping everyday life functioning," Sybiha said.

Zelensky's top adviser on defence technologies on Thursday admitted that "there may be local disruptions" following Russian attacks an the cost of internet services could increase to cover the costs of repairs.

But Serhii Beskrestnov stressed that Ukraine's internet network was highly decentralised, so the country "will not be left without internet access".

A 28-year-old British climber has died after falling about 60m (200ft) from one of the highest mountains in northern Spain.

The man fell into a gully while descending from the summit of Torrecerredo in the Cantabrian Mountains on Thursday, the Spanish Civil Guard said.

Police and an air unit were deployed to the scene after emergency services were called around 13:27 local time (11:27 GMT). The man's body was recovered by a mountain rescue unit.

The UK Foreign Office said it was in contact with local authorities "following reports of the death of a British national in Spain".

Spanish emergency services said they initially received a call saying that a person had fallen on the eastern face of the mountain and dispatched a rescue group aboard a medical helicopter.

A doctor among them confirmed the man's death at about 14:18 and remained at the scene to guard the body until a Civil Guard helicopter could arrive about an hour and 20 minutes later.

Specialist mountain rescuers were then lowered by winch to the site of the accident, where they recovered the man's body and belongings.

The identity of the climber, who Spanish authorities said was English, has not been given. The accident occurred when he was about 20 metres from the mountain's summit.

His body has been transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine, which provides forensic pathology services, in Asturias, the Civil Guard said.

Torrecerredo, which has an elevation of about 2,650m, is in the Picos de Europa, which is popular with climbers and walkers.

The region's tourism board describes the route up the mountain as "very difficult" with a demanding ascent, warning climbers to take particular care on steep and exposed upper sections on their way down.

Sepa Asturias - the body responsible for emergency services in the region - said it also transported a 54-year-old French woman to hospital after she suffered a leg injury on the mountain range on Thursday afternoon.

It has taken more than two years, but a judgement finally appears to have been reached on the 115 charges levelled against Manchester City over breaches of Premier League financial rules.

Following a four-year investigation, City were charged and the hearing finally got under way on 16 September 2024.

BBC Sport has now learned a decision has been made, after the Athletic reported City had been found guilty on all almost of the charges.

We are not at the end of this process, however. Far from it.

But what does this mean for City's titles? What about their Premier League status? Will there be an appeal? And how long will it be before this saga does come to an end?

It started with a single stolen mobile phone, found inside a sealed parcel, inside a warehouse near Heathrow airport.

It ended in police dismantling what detectives believe to be the UK's largest phone smuggling network.

The device had been electronically tracked to the warehouse not by officers, but by a victim who had it stolen from them just before Christmas in 2024 and alerted the DHL courier company.

"The phone was ringing in the package," explains Commander Andy Featherstone, the Metropolitan police's lead on mobile phone theft.

"It was still on. Which is very unusual in these circumstances, because they tend to be wrapped up, so the signal isn't working. But in this case it was."

Stolen phones are often wrapped in aluminium foil in order to block wireless signals and prevent the devices from being tracked.

When police were called to investigate, they found more than 800 devices, packaged in batches of five, stacked into nine boxes, some wrapped in foil, others in bubble wrap.

All were stolen and they were destined to be shipped to Hong Kong.

A major inquiry known as Operation Echosteep was launched, with detectives who specialise in investigating armed robberies and drug smuggling brought in to track down suspects.

Further shipments were intercepted and officers used forensics on the packages to identify two men, who were placed under surveillance.

Sir David Beckham has netted a £38.5m payout from his sports, fashion, and media business after the 2026 Men's Football World Cup helped it bring in record profits.

The former England star's DRJB Holdings, which includes the Beckham brand, reported an almost £50m profit in 2025, a 46% jump compared to a year earlier. Sales rose from £72.2m to £84m.

The rise was driven by a slew of advertising partnerships struck in the runup to the tournament, including with Bank of America, McDonald's, Verizon, and PepsiCo Lay's.

Sir David, Britain's first billionaire sportsman, was commonly seen in adverts during the summer's World Cup.

In the US, it was difficult for fans to watch a game without coming across Beckham in adverts for Stella Artois, Home Depot and Lay's crisps - known as Walkers in the UK.

Sir David also launched menswear collections for Hugo Boss last year, as well as a pair of Adidas Predator football boots and an eyewear range with Italian glasses maker Safilo.

Revenues at DRJB, of which Beckham owns almost half, were boosted by growth in Beckham's health supplements business too.

DRJB paid its shareholders £38.9m, followed by a special £46.6m payment after the end of the financial year.

Sir David's share of those dividends would have been around £38.5m due to how much of the company he owns.

The remainder of DRJB is owned by New York-based Authentic Brands Group, which also owns Reebok, as well as the rights to other celebrity brands such as comedian and actor Kevin Hart.

Authentic's entertainment chief executive Corey Salter said the performance showed Sir David's name is "one of the most powerful global brands in sport, lifestyle, entertainment and much more".

"It's been an outstanding year, from new partnerships to important philanthropic campaigns and overall brand growth," he said.

Sir David previously drew criticism for associating himself with a country where same-sex relationships are illegal by acting as an ambassador for the 2022 Men's Football World Cup in Qatar.

"It was an important competition and one I was proud to be part of," he said at the time, adding that he had engaged with the LGBTQ community during the tournament.

School strikes are taking place across Germany to protest against the possible reintroduction of compulsory military service.

One of the organisers of the strike, Bela Breitner, from School Strike Against Compulsory Military Service said the federal government was "serious about gradually reintroducing compulsory military service".

At one protest in Hamburg, demonstrators waved flags and held up banners emblazoned with the words "We won't take part in your wars".

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has made boosting Germany's military a priority following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

A new law introducing voluntary military service came into force in January, with the aim of recruiting volunteers to increase the number of soldiers.

However, if the security situation worsens or if too few volunteers come forward, a form of compulsory military service could be considered by Germany's Parliament, the Bundestag.

Under the law, all 18-year-olds in Germany are being sent a questionnaire asking if they are interested and willing to join the armed forces.

One protester, 16-year-old Elias Bernhard, from Hamburg, said that the responses to the questionnaires "show that young people do not want to join the Bundeswehr [Germany's armed forces]".

"That is why I am out on the streets today. That is why we are serious about striking until compulsory military service is off the table. We will carry on."

The questionnaire is mandatory for men and voluntary for women. All 18-year-old men will have to take a medical exam to assess their fitness for possible military service.

The organisers of the protests, say the trigger came after some 18-year-olds in the northern German towns of Kiel and Flensburg, were sent official invitations for medical exams, even though they expressed no interest in joining the army on their registration forms.

The group says over a hundred demonstrations are planned across Germany, including in Kiel, Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt.

A spokesperson for the Defence Ministry told the BBC that under the law, the obligation to undergo a medical examination applies "to all men liable for military service who were born after 31 December 2007".

This also applies to people who have stated that they have no interest in compulsory military service. The spokesperson said that since July around 1,000 18-year-old men, who showed no interest in the army, have had the medical exam.

During the Cold War, Germany, like many other European countries, had a large army. But it reduced its armed forces during the 1990s after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

Germany's former Chancellor, Angela Merkel, ended compulsory military service in 2011.

But now, in the face of perceived threats from Russia and heavy pressure from Germany's traditional ally, the US, Merz has vowed to transform the Bundeswehr into Europe's strongest conventional army.

The Bundeswehr currently has around 186,700 troops. By the early 2030s, Germany wants to raise the number to 260,000, supplemented by around 200,000 reservists, in order to meet new Nato force targets and strengthen Germany's defences.

The prime minister has said that the decision to bail a sex offender and repeatedly allow him to return to his home overlooking the playground he targeted must be reviewed.

Zafer Dogan, 32, of Enfield, north London, was jailed on Thursday for two years and four months for taking thousands of pictures of children and using AI software to "nudify" them.

Andy Burnham called the case "disturbing", adding: "I would ask those working across the criminal justice system to look at it and to make any necessary changes as a result."

The Ministry of Justice said while the Crown Prosecution Service had the right to challenge them, final bail decisions were "made by the independent judiciary".

The ministry added: "The protection of victims, witnesses, and the public must always be considered when deciding whether or not an offender should be released on bail."

London's victims' commissioner Andrea Simon said victims and their families had been "grossly failed" by the court system that granted Dogan bail.

She said the case showed "the justice system did not centre victims" and called for a multi-agency review.

Speaking outside the court where Dogan was jailed, Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley criticised the "unfathomable decisions" of the justice system.

Burnham told BBC London's political editor Karl Mercer that Sir Mark "certainly has a point and it needs to be heard".

"It's a matter for the courts when these decisions are made," the prime minister said. "They need to hear the voice of the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

"This case is disturbing and I would ask those working across the criminal justice system to look at it and make any necessary changes as a result."

Burnham also told BBC London the plan to release some offenders before the end of their custodial sentences, to free up space in prisons, was "not an ideal situation".

"The failure to build prison spaces over a number of years has led to this unacceptable situation," he said.

Dogan had pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child, which included 900 category C images, 294 category B images and 653 category A images, which are the most serious.

He also admitted possessing extreme pornography, possessing a prohibited image of a child, creating purported intimate images of an adult, obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty and a further two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

According to the police, he had taken more than 5,000 pictures, many from his bedroom window.

Despite protests from the police and prosecutors, he had previously been bailed back to his flat, forcing one family who had fallen victim to his crimes to move into temporary accommodation.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today, Simon said: "I think victims and their families were grossly failed by the decision to allow this paedophile to return to an address where he was overlooking a playground near to his victims.

"The case [shows that] the justice system just does not centre victims. To know that the police and prosecutors opposed bail multiple times, but nevertheless, he was returned to the community, is an indication that the capacity pressures on prisons are not being balanced with the impacts that that's having on victims' lives.

"We seem to be lurching from one crisis to another, and victim safety and their rights seem to be put to one side, as the justice system struggles."

SAS troops carried out night-time arrest raids across Afghanistan during the conflict there, called Deliberate Detention Operations (DDOs), which were meant to target Taliban commanders and bombmakers, and collect material that could provide further intelligence about insurgent networks.

Following a night raid, members of the SAS and their support staff took photos of anyone killed, and collected mobile phones and other devices for intelligence purposes.

Forensic experts are examining these images to see whether the SAS's account of what took place during the operations fits with the ballistic evidence visible in the photographs.

The inquiry follows years of reporting by BBC Panorama, which revealed evidence that the SAS deliberately killed people who posed no threat, including children and handcuffed detainees during raids.

It has already heard evidence from senior UK military personnel who have said they believed the SAS carried out extrajudicial killings of Afghan civilians.

It has also heard concerns about the secrecy under which the SAS operated and that previous investigations into the allegations were ended prematurely.

Edward Craven KC, acting on behalf of the bereaved families, echoed the chair's comments on the newly discovered documents, saying the disclosure represented yet another example of the MoD frustrating the justice process.

Craven said that what mattered most to the bereaved families was getting the truth about the deaths of their loved ones.

Haddon-Cave said it was crucial that "any material of real relevance is quickly identified and disclosed", adding that he intended to call another hearing next month to question the MoD on its progress.

The MoD said it was fully committed to supporting the inquiry and that it regretted that it was "not as prompt or consistent as it should have been" in disclosing the documents.

Set up by the then-Defence Secretary Ben Wallace following the publication of the evidence by the BBC in 2022, the IIA has come under criticism over delays and mounting costs.

It had stated that it would provide an interim or final report 12-18 months after it was established in 2022. After almost four years, it has yet to publish any findings.

The BBC revealed earlier this month that it has already cost the public purse £58m.

Around half of that cost is understood to have been money spent by the MoD and the wider government in responding to the inquiry, including lawyers representing former SAS officers and senior military figures.

Public inquiries are rarely quick or cheap. The inquiry into the fire at Grenfell Tower, which claimed 72 lives and was found to be entirely avoidable, took more than seven years to complete and cost more than £170m.

Haddon-Cave said he had set a deadline to hear all evidence by 30 April 2027 and that he was seeking assurances that the new discovery would not delay the work of the inquiry further.

Ed Sheeran's concerts in Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday have been cancelled because of severe weather warnings in the area.

The singer had been scheduled to perform two shows at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, near Boston, as part of his current US tour.

The tour has been in the headlines because of a row over a decision to drop Sheeran's support act Macklemore for making pro-Palestinian comments on stage. Stadium owners including the Gillette Stadium's Robert Kraft lobbied for his removal.

A statement from the venue, external said: "Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, the promoter and tour have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium."

It added: "The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority.

"Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded."

Weather warnings for high winds are in force in the area until the early hours of Sunday, and officials have told drivers to minimise travel.

Sheeran was at the eye of a very different storm last week after the decision to drop Macklemore from his tour.

The decision came after the rapper made on-stage comments at earlier concerts including calling for "free Palestine" and referring to "genocide" in Gaza, as well as showing images of Gaza.

Kraft, who is Jewish, accused the US rapper of hate speech and said Macklemore would not be allowed to appear at the Gillette Stadium, the home of his New England Patriots American football team.

Sheeran said the decision to drop Macklemore was made by his promoter, not by him. The promoter said venue owners including Kraft would have refused to let the concerts take place if Macklemore was on the bill.

Macklemore's removal from the tour led Sheeran's other support and backing artists to pull out in protest, and sparked a heated debate over free speech and the role of politics in music.

Returning to the stage last weekend, Sheeran told fans he "had to take and make difficult decisions - and I am making mistakes - and I'm so, so sorry".

Premier League clubs have sought legal advice as to whether they would have a compensation claim over the Manchester City 115 charges case.

After a long wait for the outcome, City have been found guilty of a majority of the financial rule breaches they were accused of.

BBC Sport has also been told that the club will appeal.

It has emerged that a number of Premier League sides, prior to Friday's news, had already started seeking advice over whether they would have a case for financial compensation as a result of City's breaches.

Other Premier League clubs have been formally told about the independent panel's decision. A select group of club directors were informed by email and had to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they could read the document, a source told the BBC

It is understood a number of City players do not have relegation release clauses in their contracts in the event of the club losing their Premier League status as a result of any sanctions

The news that City had been found guilty was broken by the Athletic, which reported that 114 of the 115 counts were upheld.

It came 1,327 days after City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 following a four-year investigation, and 22 months since a hearing by an independent commission concluded.

No official announcement has been made by the Premier League, which has declined to comment.

BBC Sport has been told the independent panel has ruled, and the majority of the charges have been upheld.

Manchester City released a statement saying: "Premier League process remains ongoing with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.

"The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence."

One source, who held a senior executive position at one Premier League club before moving to another, said they expected clubs to submit individual compensation claims against Manchester City.

However, another leading lawyer told the BBC that process could be centralised by the league.

In June, Everton were told they must pay Burnley £35m after they broke profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) over a three-year period.

Burnley argued the breach impacted their chances of staying in the Premier League, and sought compensation for the losses associated with being relegated.

Everton have appealed, with sources saying they will "robustly and thoroughly" contest the ruling, but it provides an interesting backdrop to the Manchester City case.

BBC Sport has also been told that, in the event of being found guilty, City will appeal against the findings.

Former Manchester City midfielder Rodri believes the club are innocent of any financial wrongdoing and will continue to trust them unless they are proved otherwise.

City have been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching by the Premier League, although they are set to appeal.

Speaking at a news conference before Spain's Uefa Nations League match against England at Wembley the 30-year-old, who joined Barcelona in August, backed City's stance.

"They always express the confidence that they never did something wrong and we believe in that," Rodri said.

"Until the moment they are proved wrong, we will believe the club. They always tell us the confidence they have on the innocence."

City were cleared of separate financial fair play charges by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020, having initially been given a two-year ban from European competitions by Uefa.

Rodri cited the case as a reason for the confidence of the club's players.

"We had the example of 2020 that the process was the same and at the end nothing happened," he explained.

"We have faced something similar, we had a similar judicial process. Different accusation but similar process.

"There as well in the first instance we were found guilty, but we believed in the club and the innocence that the club maintained and in the end we ended up acquitted.

"So, I believe in the justice system, and I believe in the innocence of the club."

The club won eight trophies in the period covered by the Premier League case, including three league titles, three League Cups, one Community Shield and one FA Cup.

Rodri dismissed talk of City being stripped of some of the titles they won as part of any punishment against the club.

"What we did, they cannot take out of us," he added.

"It's something that is not paid by money. It's paid with effort, with the damage, with, you know, being shoulder to shoulder every day.

"I can tell you that everything was deserved, and I'm glad that I could live one of the best eras of English football in here."

Cole Palmer "misses too many opportunities" to play for England after the Chelsea forward pulled out of the latest squad, says manager Thomas Tuchel.

The withdrawal of Palmer came as a surprise as he has started all five of Chelsea's matches in the Premier League so far this season, though Tuchel says he had been playing with "discomfort and pain".

The 24-year-old was left out of the World Cup squad by Tuchel and has featured just three times since the German took charge of the Three Lions in January 2025.

"My understanding is that he is playing with discomfort and pain, and he cannot compete at the highest level with discomfort and pain. So he withdrew and informed us, and Chelsea informed us." Tuchel said.

"For sure. It is a missed opportunity. He misses too many opportunities. I don't blame him for it. It is just a fact.

"He misses way too many camps with injuries, and I only want to rely on what I witness and see within in my team, and for that you have to be in camp.

"And if you're not in camp, there is a next level to impress that you cannot achieve because you can only do it when you are actually on the pitch with me. So yes, it is a missed opportunity."

It is understood Palmer is currently abroad completing an injury-specific training plan.

Chelsea's non international players have been given days off and have been permitted to travel if they so wish.

Palmer has been accompanied by a Chelsea rehabilitation coach on his overseas trip.

Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are the other players who pulled out with injury.

Tuchel said he was not worried that players may put their clubs above playing for their country.

"We are not managing load. When I was in club football, I used the term 'international break' and, when you hear it from the other side, it is a totally different picture," he said.

"It is a competitive environment, but it is also an environment that the players love to be a part of.

"That is what togetherness and brotherhood look like, and that is what we have created since last September in qualifying. We will never compromise on that.

"We will never let it creep in that we have a feeling players do not want to come. We focus on the guys who absolutely want to play for England."

Michael O'Neill has said he was "baffled" by some of the refereeing decisions in Friday's 1-0 win in Georgia.

Warrington Wolves have reached their first Super League Grand Final in eight years with a thrilling victory against Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley Stadium.

In a tense and topsy-turvy semi-final both sides traded two first-half tries each and drew 12-12 at the break, before the Wolves were awarded a contentious penalty which was slotted nervelessly by 18-year-old Ewan Irwin to nudge them ahead.
